INFORMATION ABOUT PEGASUS HORSES

In order to maintain our commitment to provide the highest quality of service, Pegasus continues to have a need for special horses. The daily reminder of our horses' kindness, patience and gentle spirit has been an important lesson to our riders, volunteers and staff.

The following horses have been special to us, we honor them for the impact they have made to others. Hug and kisses

Pete
Rip

Clyde, our 11 year old pony that was funded by a Masonic Group is used in therapy as well as under saddle. He was shown at the HRE of the Devon Horse Show shortly after his purchase. We are pleased with the animals in our program as they can only increase in value and service to our riders. We are always searching for appropriate mounts for our riders.

Petey

Petey is a 12 year old thoroughbred gelding that was donated to Pegasus. He was primarily used as a hunter horse and because his owner could no longer ride, he came to us. His quiet disposition and willing heart has added a greater dimension to our program. We look forward to many years of good service to our riders.

Cherokee is a 16 year old registered Overo Paint and was donated by Ms Ali in April 2003. He was out in a pasture in New Jersey and not working or being ridden. He has become an invaluable addition to the program.

Gus

We've owned Gus, now 12 years old, for over 7 years. He took a brief time away from here to become a member of the Mounted Police. He's back and doing very well with our riders. Thank you to Kal Rudman for purchasing him and allowing his return to Pegasus.

Sergio

Sergio is a 5 year old Halflinger/Belgian cross bred gelding. He was purchased for the program and is a happy addition. He was named in honor of a special child rider who passed away. He works under saddle and in equine assisted therapy. We expect good things from this horse as his training continues under the capable hands of Sarah Del Ricci.

Casey

Casey our 8 Year Old, Percheron gelding was purchased for the program - he was a carriage horse in New York. He is being used in our therapy program with great success. His temperament and ability are superior.

Timber

Our largest horse in the barn is Timber, a 17 year old Belgian. Timber came from the Pennsylvania Pocono region. He was a logging horse. Everyday he pulled large piles of logs through the woods where machinery does not fit so well. He also gave trail rides through the mountains. Timber has the sweetest personality and will smile on command. He is truly a gentle giant.

Fred

Fred is another Belgian that Pegasus has purchased from our Amish farmer friends. He was too small to be a plow horse, so he had to find a place where he fit just right. Fred is one of our 2 horses that have been trained to carry our Independence Saddle. His sweet personality and strong build have made him such an asset to our program. Fred is small for a Belgian horse, but he has the heart of a giant!

Squirt

Squirt was donated to Pegasus from a family that frequently rescues animals big and small. They saved Squirt’s life by purchasing the sickly 3 month old Pony of America and nursing him back to health. When Squirt turned three years old, it was time to find him a job! He is now one of our star ponies for the lesson program.

Big Mac

Big Mac is the smallest member of our equine staff, he is the only Miniature horse at Pegasus. He was purchased for our clients that may be confined to a wheelchair, so they may love and groom a horse that does not tower above them. Big Mac is also a great horse to introduce to anyone who may be afraid of our larger horses. He gets his exercise by pulling his little wooden cart around the neighborhood. He has proven to be a great representative for Pegasus, proudly trotting around the Grand concourse at Citizens Bank Park during the annual Autism Walk.

Mouse

Mouse is a chestnut Thoroughbred with a past of show jumping, and racing on the track. He was donated to our program by his college bound owner. Mouse is a sweet boy with many talents. His smooth gaits and easy transitions will comfort any nervous rider and make them look like a pro!

Prince Caspian

Prince Caspian is the newest member of our equine family. Although he was a former competitor for many years he has transitioned easily to our program and enjoys all of the attention he gets from our volunteers and riders.
