Hello Pegasus Volunteer!
Thank you for your interest in the Pegasus Work-to-Ride program! You have already shown a commitment to the Pegasus Riding Academy therapeutic riding program, and you are a valued member of the Pegasus team! Here at Pegasus our two greatest resources are our volunteers and our horses. By becoming a part of our Work-to-Ride program, you will be continuing to benefit our riders as a volunteer, and will additionally be benefiting our horses.
Our Work-to-Ride program is designed to help our therapy horses stay in healthy physical condition, and to help them mentally relax. Therapy horses must focus on their riders as they circle the arena. They often have to deal with riders sitting off-center, bouncing on their backs, and jerking on their mouths. Their therapy lessons can be stressful and our Work-to-Ride program is one way that we help them de-stress, so that they can handle the challenges of therapy work.
Please understand that our Work-to-Ride program is for the benefit of our horses. We work hard to keep our horses healthy and happy. Each of our horses has individual needs that we will ask you to help meet as part of their exercise program. Our equine director will tell you what the horse you are assigned to ride needs, and will explain what riding exercises will benefit your assigned horse. If you have any questions about your horse’s exercise program and/or limitations, please ask the equine director before you ride.
Included in the following packet are the rules and regulations for the Work-to-Ride program, an application for the Work-to-Ride program, an explanation of the different riding levels, and a description of what riding skills are looked for during your evaluation to determine your exercise riding level at Pegasus. After your application has been approved by the Pegasus Directors, the equine director will contact you to set-up a riding evaluation time.
Thanks Again!
