Pegasus Therapeutic Riding Academy Announces New Executive Director

Pegasus Therapeutic Riding Academy (Pegasus TRA) is pleased to announce that Alexandra Manwarren has accepted the position of Executive Director of Pegasus TRA, effective July 1, 2019.

For over 25 years, Alexandra Manwarren (Alex) has served in various roles in the private and nonprofit sectors. Alex began her career at the YMCA spending over a decade in non-profit programs, then moving into sales and marketing roles. In November 2009, Alex moved to Philadelphia with her family and started her journey with Pegasus.  She is a PATH (Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship) International certified instructor, has served on the gala committee and lends a voice for the program through the social media platforms for Pegasus TRA. Alex is a graduate of Sweet Briar College with a B.S. in Psychology.

Barbara Wertheimer, current Executive Director has announced that she will step down as of June 30, 2018. Alex and Barbara will work side-by-side during the transition with Alex as Operations Director and Barbara continuing to serve Pegasus as Executive Director emeritus. Barbara will be leading an advisory committee as well continuing grant work for Pegasus in her retirement.

It is an honor to be named as the next Executive Director at Pegasus TRA. Experiencing the benefits of therapeutic riding and seeing the bond between horses, riders and volunteers inspired me to volunteer and work in the therapeutic industry,” says Alex. Growing up, she was fortunate to be surrounded by equestrians, compete in horse shows, participate in a strong 4-H program and graduate from Sweet Briar College with diverse equestrian experiences. Furthermore, she was raised with a supportive family that always placed service over self, as demonstrated by her entire family volunteering at a therapeutic riding facility in Texas.  “It is a privilege to work alongside the dedicated staff and amazing therapy horses at Pegasus TRA. It is my goal to increase the reach of our program in Philadelphia and the surrounding areas. If you would like to see the magic of Pegasus TRA and experience the benefits that therapeutic riding can have, come volunteer with us!”
