Summer 2014 is here and things at Pegasus Therapeutic Riding Academy are HOT! Our 6 week summer program allows specialized groups and riders to try out therapeutic riding without being on the waiting list.

We are able to have additional summer staff to help with lessons and barn management so that we can accommodate additional participants during the summer. Ever wonder what it’s like during the summer sessions at Pegasus?  Here’s a quick sample of a Pegasus summer session day:

Staff arrive and help groom horses and take care of daily barn chores:

Then we have our riding lessons with our participants.  For this session, several of our riders are assisted with journaling what they did at Pegasus that day.  Some of our participants are able to write their experiences and others draw pictures.  They are all prompted with the “Today I am going to _____” or “Today I tried _______”.

With our amazing camp staff and fun atmosphere at the barn, we try to vary the activities that the riders experience to make it a welcoming experience to learn more about horses and enjoy being around them.  It is summertime, so we are very careful to keep everyone hydrated and watch our horses and riders to ensure that everyone is not over-heated.  We are able to ride in the outdoor ring, under the trees or use the sensory trail to stay out of the sun.We can usually wrap up our day with a good measure of self esteem and a TON of Pegasus style fun!
